1 month visa
Most tourist enter Thailand and get a one month (free) visa upon arrival.
If you decide to stay longer you must extend the visa. This can simply
be realised if you cross the border at Nongkai - Vientiane Laos and
directly enter thailand again.
You then get a new one month visa. After two times extensions
you must leave the country and apply for a visum at a Thai embassy/consulate.
Visa Laos
The price at the border for a visa to enter Laos depends on your nationality
and vary between 20-40 USD. A photo is required. The 1 month Thai visa is free of charge.
ATTENTION
The fine for overstay after your thai visa is expired is 500 BAHT per day. Don't waste
money and arrange your visa in time.
3 month visa
Many tourists who want to stay longer in Thailand apply for
a visa at the Thai Embassy/Consulate in Vientiane Laos. The price of a 3 month visa is
1.000 BAHT. You must bring your own photo's. Foreigners who are married with
a thai women
and want to stay in Thailand can also apply for a year visa.
You must stay at least one day
in Laos. A simple but convenient hotel in Vientiane can be booked for 18,- USD.
Consulate opening hours
The opening hours for applying visa at the Thai Embassy/Consulate in Vientiane is 9.00-11.00.
The next day you can pick up your passport as from 13.00 hours.
Every day there is a long queu at the Embassy so its advisable that you arrive at the gate
30-40 minutes before opening time.
If you e.g. travel from Udon Thani to the border in Nongkai with 2 persons by bus and then
from the border to the center of Vientiane it will cost you at least 4.000 baht
including the visa for Laos and the 3 month visa for Thailand.
